SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) is an automated warehouse management system built by the German company SAP.
SAP is an IT company specialising in software for medium-sized and large organisations all over the world. It was founded by five former IBM employees back in 1976. The ERP system they created in the 1990s became the most popular one worldwide and brought the company great recognition and profit. Its market capitalisation runs into tens of billions of euros.
Warehouse management systems are one of SAP's business areas. Their key product in this segment is SAP EWM. It came into the world in 2005 as a separate, standalone application, continuing the development of the SAP WM module that was part of SAP ERP. Every year SAP has refined the system to match the current needs of the market. At the moment it is tacitly acknowledged as the most functionally complete WMS system in existence. The core functionality of SAP EWM is shown in the picture:

In Russia SAP EWM has been chosen by such large companies as Eldorado, Lenta, Enter, Ferrero, Utkonos, OMPK, Detsky Mir, Hochland and Bezant.
SAP keeps improving the system to match changing market conditions. A new release with additional functions comes out steadily, roughly every six months. In late 2014 the SAP EWM Customer Influence project was also launched. Under this project, customers, partners and other interested parties can submit requests for additional features in future releases of the system. It is safe to say that SAP is persistently trying to extend its reach and take first place in the WMS market.
